Blind and Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh welcomes to its Board of Directors Alex Thinath, an analyst in PNC Financial Services’ Strategic Initiatives Office. Alex joined PNC in January 2014. Previously, he worked in a new product development role at Stryker Medical and as a co-founder of a startup medical device company, CentriCycle. He holds a chemical engineering degree from the University of Michigan with a concentration in multidisciplinary design.

Children’s Vision Screening

Children’s Vision Screening

Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services offers free vision screenings for children ages 1 – 6 at area daycare centers and preschool programs. Professional screening technicians screen for vision deficiencies, some of which can save a child’s sight if caught early. We also conduct adult vision screenings. Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services announces Full Circle, an art show and exhibit featuring work created by adults with disabilities, Thursday, July 17, at 1800 West St., Homestead, PA 15120, 412-368-4400 ext. 2297. An artist meet and greet will be from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.; an evening exhibit and hors d’ouvres are planned from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Art and craft items will be available for purchase, with proceeds going to the programs for adults with disabilities.

$70,000 Grant

$70,000 Grant

Blind & Vision Rehabilitation Services of Pittsburgh has received a $70,000 grant from the Nelson Adult Blind Fund of The Pittsburgh Foundation. The funding will provide services in our Low Vision Rehabilitation Program to adults who have been diagnosed with low vision and who are not insured or who are under-insured. Services may include eye exams and/or prescribed vision devices and the necessary training.

Corporate Cup Results

The 30th annual Corporate Cup Charity Ski Race and Sporting Clays benefiting Blind & Vision Rehab took place Friday, Feb. 28, 2014 at Seven Springs Mountain Resort.

The winning ski team, representing Gordon Terminal Service, included Geoffrey Ehringer, Greg Semuskie and George Ehringer with a time of 106.39. Geoffrey Ehringer was the fastest skier with a time of 30.29.

The winning Clays team, representing Vista Metals, Inc., included Fred
Cromling, Vince Oddo, Steve Yuhouse, Al Pontia and Mark Booth with a score of 387.

St. Lucy’s Gift

St. Lucy’s Gift

BVRS has received a $200,000 gift from St. Lucy’s Auxiliary to the Blind. The donation is from proceeds of St. Lucy’s annual Medallion Ball, which recognizes young women for completing a required amount of volunteer hours in the community during their high school years. Since 1959, St. Lucy’s Auxiliary to the Blind has given BVRS $3,355,366.
